We learn by living.

We read, write, do maths, and prepare for entrance exams. But we also cook, repair the house, care for animals, create in the workshops, travel, work through conflicts, and make decisions about the things that affect us.

For us, education is not preparation for life. It is part of life itself.

"We are a community school operating on the principles of free democratic education."

In our country, a free school is not a designation of the legal form of a school. It is a designation of an educational approach.

What does a free school mean to us?

Freedom does not mean "not having to do anything."

It means the opportunity to make decisions about your life, gradually learning to take responsibility for your decisions.

The student decides what they will focus on, how they will work, or when they need a break.

But at the same time, he is not alone in the world.

We live together. We need to negotiate, respect the boundaries of others, take care of the space we live in, and take our share of responsibility for the community.

Freedom and responsibility are two sides of the same coin for us.

What does a typical day look like?

We meet in a common circle in the morning.

We talk about what's happening that day, who's planning what, and what the offers are.

And then the day begins to unfold:

Someone needs Czech.
Someone is preparing for the entrance exams.
Someone has a project in the workshop.
Someone goes to the animals.
Someone is cooking.

Joint offers are also created during the day:
blocks — languages, history, geography, natural sciences, or projects that just make sense.

But there is no single schedule that would determine the same day for everyone.

Learning doesn't have to look like teaching.

We count when we build.
We write when we need to create real text.
We learn about nature while working with animals and on the farm.
We learn to plan when a new project is created.

And sometimes we just sit down over a textbook.

Because learning itself is not a problem. It doesn't just have to be disguised as a game.

We decide together about our life together.

In Zbonín we live together, not next to each other.

We all have the same voice, so rules and changes in our common life are born from open dialogue.

We discuss changes and plans in a circle where everyone can express their needs and suggestions.

We learn to listen, seek compromises and make decisions even if they are not always according to our wishes.

In joint decision-making, the child's voice has the same weight as the adult's voice.

Adults are not here to control every step.

But we are present here.

We offer experiences, open up topics, help find a way when needed, and maintain the boundaries of the common space.

Sometimes we teach. Sometimes we work side by side. Sometimes we just listen.

We don't want to lead the child to where we have planned in advance. We want to help them gradually become able to lead themselves.

WE LIVE TOGETHER

School doesn't end with the last block.
We cook, we take care of the house, we spend evenings together, and we learn to live with others.

ZBONÍN IS NOT FOR EVERYONE

It is for children and families who value freedom combined with responsibility and living together.
